How connectivity is revolutionizing everything

http://gigaom.com/2012/09/19/the-challenge-of-the-connected-car-how-to-design-compelling-apps-without-causing-accidents/

A few things that are highlighted in this article:

·         Drivers already rely on cell phones, navigation devices and other connected gadgets to stream music, get directions and check on traffic.

o   Now analysts say that within five years, car owners will expect every car to have a data connection built-in to make these tasks

o   To make a seamless and less distracting driving experience

·         This started with GPS Devices

·         Automakers  followed the GPS by trying to brand services

o   GM OnStar

o   Ford Sync

o   Nissan LEAF Tesla Model-s are examples of super connected cars

Other recent articles

At the same place gigaom.com are several recent articles that continue the discussion about cars and technology:

·         Gives consumer another alternative to having to use Onstar

My question,  Why not Google maps

Another example that cars are changing:

The Spark is the first car GM is selling that doesn’t have a CD player option in all but its most basic model.

Random Thoughts and assignment subject ideas

I have been thinking about our current assignment. I have a contriversal subject that is all over the internet, and another  one that is considered a safer subject that also has information on the internet.

Subject one - Sex Offender Registery and issues about a group listed offenders that are on this due to laws. These are listed offenders that may not be actual preditors. If I decide to discuss this one, I wll be opening a can of worms. The subject of discussion will be about rights, the judgemental society and other issues. OK this is not about me, but about a case I know about very well. Is this a subject that is worth discussing here on the forum.

Subject two - Women that are deadbeat parents and how the media oly discusses deadbeat dads.

Class members, what do you think. I already have started a list of sources on each of the above subject areas, but wanted to throw this out for a day or two before writng the actual report to be posted.

Feedback anyone???

Thanks

Jerry

Jerry’s Facebook Plan

Jerry’s Facebook Plan

This is a full business start-up. So there has been a great amount of time to get the actual business web-page working and online to be live. This included purchasing a domain and host, building the page through the host company templates, and securing licenses and a business name. The last part was the final approval to have Pay-Pal as my service provider for payments.

Now that the page is working, I can now put my energy into the advertising and promotion of the new business.

My plan for development of the new on-line store is or now was to announce the progress of the page as it becomes a live store. That part has been done and the store is live and open.

This was a full startup of a business, and there has already been a lot of time invested in preparing the actual web page for the opening. Now that the page is working, I have been able to concentrate on the start of the Facebook promotion for this company.

The Plan

A first thing is to get some inventory added right away. I was at the end of the deadline to have this ready to present to the class and had to go ahead and go forward with the page publishing so I could get the links and start of the Facebook promotion page started.

I will be posting pictures of some key inventory items on the Facebook page with a link to the store in the comments of each picture. This should create interest to the new store.

The plan is to add updates about new products that have been added to the store inventory. I will be at first posting almost daily pictures and description information about new items added to the active inventory. Time is of the essence to get inventory added to the page. First so the promotion will work and second, so I can start making money.

In the next few days I will be adding a coupon code so visitors to the Facebook page can receive a discount on purchases. This will be strictly a Facebook page promotion.

There are several departments or areas of interest. As I find what areas have an excess amount of inventory, I will be offering a special buy or sale in that area. I will continue to offer specials that will be posted on the Facebook page to create traffic to the store.

There are holiday items that I have available that will be posted with a special promotion which I have not decided on yet. I have four holidays that can be promoted, which are Halloween, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. After this class is finished, I will be continuing to promote holiday purchases.

I will also be promoting special finds and deals for specific departments as I sort and categorize the inventory.

As I find what sells, (on the business side of things) I will purchase and promote these better moving items.

I have not forgotten about Pinterest. If I find an item that I can repurpose and fits the criteria of the Pinterest site, I will post the item with a link to the store. I am not sure if this will work or not. I also have an Amazon account that I sell books through and may cross promote some books through the Facbook page and the store website.

I am also looking at E-bay to actually sell special items. I have accounts with Pinterest and E-bay alresdy, so it is just a matter of posting the items.

This is just a start of the plan so I will revise and add more information as I find I need to.

New Facebook page is now working

Today I created the facebook page for the new store I am getting ready to open. The url is:

https://www.facebook.com/SouthernUtahLiquidation?ref=hl

I still need to fine tune the business page and after it goes live, I want to do my media blitz.

I think I did pretty good to get the facebook page working. Like my blog, creating a facebook page for a business is a new experience for me. I have created a group page fr fun, but not for a business.

It was not hard at all to create the business page.

The next step is to get the store open and to get this new business promoted.
